Walden Festival is an initiative from the founders of Klarafestival. The concept? Enjoying music in all its diversity on various stages in and around Brussels’ Leopold Park, the green heart of the European Quarter. Get ready for an exploration of classical, contemporary, non-Western music and jazz for young and old alike!
Enjoying music in all its diversity and in a relaxed atmosphere, for young and old, that is Walden Festival.
The garden of the Natural Sciences Museum is again this year the starting-point for your musical journey of discovery. New this year are extra locations on Sunday, such as the wonderful Wiertz Museum, and even more assorted features. We are again providing a route for families with children, a guided tour and delicious picnics. You can also visit the Natural Science Museum for a reduced price on showing your Walden-ticket.
Saturday 16 July will have an Arabic-Andalusian vibe. That evening, oud-virtuoso Rabih Abouh-Kahlil, together with Mateusz Smoczynski (violin) and Jarrod Cagwin (percussion), will bring jazz and eastern music together in a sizzling combination. The Mediterranean Youth Orchestra and soprano Claron McFadden, under the direction of Fabrizio Cassol, will then take you on a musical odyssey – direct from the Aix-en-Provence Festival.
On Sunday 17 July, we take you on a musical adventure. The new BRYGGEN string orchestra performs a programme in which classical and folk reach out to each other, with Grieg’s Holbergsuite, Arvo Pärt’s meditative Summa and sprightly folk music. You may remember jazz-saxophonist Robin Verheyen’s guest appearance alongside Branford Marsalis at Klarafestival 2022. He now returns with his own quartet and his compelling Bach Riddles. For the adventurous, we have the cutting edge Manchester Collective with Steve Reich’s Double Sextet and futuristic folk from Lyra Pramuk. And of course we once again have an irresistible family route.
Rabih Abou-Kahlil Trio, l'Orchestre des Jeunes de la Méditerranée & Fabrizio Cassol feat. Claron McFadden, BRYGGEN - Bruges Strings, Robin Verheyen Quartet, Manchester Collective, Renaud Garcia-Fons, Benjamin Glorieux & Anthony Romaniuk, family activities, & many more.
