In this rare gem, an 18-year-old Mozart unfolds for the first time his highly personal musical theatre, combining burlesque and drama to attain the human. This precocious dramma giocoso – premiered in Munich on 13 January 1775 just as the Place des Martyrs was being built in Brussels – is the perfect showcase for this talented troupe of emerging singers.
In the course of a crazy day in the countryside, confusion reigns among seven characters who are each looking for love. Entangled in a spiral of increasingly improbable situations, each protagonist uses in turn seduction, anger, reproach or ruse. Next morning, will they recognise their soul mates? And, as there are seven of them, who will be left alone? Only the night will tell. Hidden identities, comic coincidences, mad lovers, all animated by brilliant music – the great art of our favourite composer comes to life here in an imaginary garden full of twists and turns (premonitions of a trilogy to come).
